The summer holidays are almost over, and so are our vacations. Our professional bias is so advanced that even while lying on the beach or hiking in the mountains, we’re constantly thinking and searching for anything retro-related in our area. And this time it was no different. On our way to Italy, we passed through Austria, and quite by chance, while chatting in a shop, one of the locals brought up the incredible motorcycle museum near Linz. From his colorful stories, and as far as we could communicate, it seemed like a real treat for motorcycle enthusiasts like me, so without a second thought, we decided to see for ourselves.
After reaching our destination, Peintal, there was initially no sign of any fantastic museum nearby: a small village, a narrow road leading to a chicken farm, nothing special at all. I thought the guy had really put me on the spot, but after a while, we circled the farm and a large yellow building with a small sign reading “Motorradmuseum” appeared. My eyes lit up, and we quickly went inside. We bought our tickets and were already in the exhibition halls, and there it was… a real treat. Over 900 exhibits, arranged thematically and very logically. Each one has a plaque with a detailed description, and the outdoor arrangements are incredibly carefully selected. The sheer number of details, gadgets, and trinkets from the last century creates the feeling of being transported back in time. The motorcycles themselves are mostly restored to a very high standard. There are brands we’re very familiar with, as well as ones we’ve heard of elsewhere. There are models I’ve read about but never seen. Overall, almost two hours of unforgettable visual delights. Interestingly, this is a private collection. In my opinion, one of the most interesting entries on the retro automotive map of Europe. Judge for yourself; below are a few photos of this incredible place.
